What is a vintage power loom?

Answer

A vintage power loom is an electrically or steam-powered weaving machine from the late 18th century, known for producing uniquely textured fabric. Despite their rarity, we continue to use them in Kojima, Japan for our denim.

Details

Vintage power looms are weaving machines powered by electricity or steam, built on technology dating back to the late 18th century. They run at a much slower pace than modern looms, placing less stress on the yarn and producing fabric with a uniquely full, expressive texture. Limited efficiency and the declining number of working machines and skilled operators have made them rare today—but we remain committed to weaving our denim on these vintage power looms in Kojima (Okayama), one of Japan's premier denim-producing regions.
