Nearly all SEILIN & Co. clothing is made in Japan, from BLUE BLUE JAPAN's natural indigo dyeing to BLUE BLUE's selvedge denim woven on vintage power looms. A small number of items are made overseas; each product page lists the country of origin.
BLUE BLUE weaves its original selvedge denim in Kojima (Okayama), one of Japan's premier denim regions, on vintage power looms. The slow-running looms place less stress on the yarn, giving the fabric a uniquely full texture.
BLUE BLUE uses vintage power looms because they create a fabric texture modern looms cannot. Based on late-18th-century technology, they run slowly and are far less efficient, but we keep weaving our denim on them in Kojima (Okayama).
BLUE BLUE JAPAN uses both natural indigo dyeing with plants such as tadeai and synthetic indigo dyeing, each dyed by hand for a texture and depth of color that machine dyeing cannot reproduce.
There are no significant individual differences in our hand-dyed and handcrafted items, as we ensure all pieces meet our quality standards before shipping.

A vintage power loom is an electrically or steam-powered weaving machine from the late 18th century, known for producing uniquely textured fabric. Despite their rarity, we continue to use them in Kojima, Japan for our denim.
